How paying for MUSTER works

MUSTER is prepaid. You top up your trip budget by card, and eSIMs and coordinator bookings are paid from that budget. There are no subscriptions, no monthly fees, no recurring charges and no saved cards. We only ever take a card payment when you top up yourself.

Right now, online card payments are not open on the live site. The top-up screen shows the bundles and the amounts, but the pay button is switched off and marked "Coming soon", and no card is charged. We will update this policy when card payments open.

Accepted cards

When card top-ups open at launch, we accept Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards. We do not accept other card schemes or other payment methods.

Card payments go through our card processor over an encrypted connection and use 3-D Secure, so your bank may ask you to approve the payment in its app or with a code. MUSTER never stores your full card number or security code. We keep the amount, the date, the result and a payment reference.

The name on the card should be yours or belong to the organisation you organise the trip for, with its permission.

Exactly where the number goes, in order:

  1. You type the card into the form over an encrypted connection.
  2. The browser posts it to MUSTER's own payment route, which checks the number, expiry and security code are well formed and passes them straight to our card processor. The card therefore does pass through our server in memory for the length of that one request.
  3. Your bank may ask you to confirm with 3-D Secure.
  4. Nothing about the card is written down. We store only the amount, the status and our own payment reference — not the number, not the last four digits, not the expiry, not the name on the card.
  5. The next payment asks for the card again, because nothing was saved.

Payment amounts and bundles

  • The smallest payment is €1.00.
  • The largest single payment is €20,000.00. For a bigger budget, make a second payment.
  • You can pick a bundle on the top-up screen or type your own amount in the currency you chose. A bundle adds exactly its price to your trip budget. There are no bonuses and no discounts.

We check these limits on our server as well as in the form, so €1.00 and €20,000.00 are accepted and anything outside them, even by one cent, is refused before any card is charged.

The payment appears in your trip budget once your bank approves the payment. If the bank declines it or 3-D Secure is not completed, nothing is added and nothing is charged. Submitting the same payment form twice does not charge you twice.

Currency

You choose the currency you work in: euros or US dollars. Prices, your trip budget and every line of your statement are shown in that currency, a top-up is charged in it, and a refund goes back in the currency you paid in. There is no separate unit such as credits or points: the balance is an amount of money.

Behind the scenes our accounts are kept in euros, so when you use dollars, the dollar figures are converted from them at one daily exchange rate. That is why a dollar balance can move by a few cents from one day to the next while nothing has been spent.

You can choose to see prices in euros or US dollars at the foot of any page and in your account menu. If you have not chosen, we start with euros for the eurozone and dollars everywhere else. Dollar figures are rounded conversions from one daily exchange rate, and a top-up is charged in the currency you chose, at the figure shown before you pay. If your card is in yet another currency, your bank converts that amount at its own rate and may add its own fee.

How eSIMs are charged

Each eSIM costs our price for the trip's data plan, which includes our margin over what the mobile network charges us. For a day-pass plan, that daily price is multiplied by the number of days in the trip. Before a run, the generate screen shows the price of one eSIM, the number of travellers and the total for the roster.

  • A run starts only if your trip budget covers the whole total. Otherwise nothing is charged and the screen shows the difference.
  • We take the price of each eSIM from your trip budget just before ordering it, one traveller at a time.
  • A large roster, or one confirmed while our supply is busy, is issued in batches. Travellers still pending are not charged until their own eSIM is ordered.
  • If the network refuses an eSIM, its price goes back into your trip budget at once.
  • If the price changed since you opened the screen, the run does not start and you see the new total first.
  • Each traveller is charged once for their eSIM. A second run skips travellers who already have one.

Every payment, charge and credit back appears as a line in the ledger on your trip budget page, with the balance after it. Your balance is always the sum of those lines.

How coordinator bookings are charged

Each coordinator has an hourly rate shown on the coordinators page. A coverage plan slot is one hour and an on-call window is four hours. When you book, the price of the slot comes out of your trip budget straight away. If your budget does not cover it, the booking is refused and nothing is charged. Refunds for cancelled bookings go back into yourtrip budget as set out in the refund policy.

Payment problems and disputes

If a payment was taken but does not show in your trip budget, or you see a charge you do not recognise, write to us on the contact form with the date and amount. We check our payment records and read it within two working days.

Refunds of unused credit go back to the card you paid with, as described in the refund policy. Nothing in this policy limits your right to raise a dispute with your card issuer.
